What Instant Pot Accessories Do You Need?

A couple of years ago, we bought an Instant Pot, when it was on sale on Amazon. I love to use it for stew, soups, chili, and many other favourite dishes – you can brown the meat in the Instant Pot, and then add the other ingredients. Now, I’d like to get a few Instant Pot accessories, to expand the variety of dishes that we can make.

Instant Pot Recipes

At first, I just used the recipes in the booklet that comes with the Instant Pot. Recently, I bought a couple of Instant Pot recipe books, and we’ll be trying some new meals from those books.

One of the books is The I Love My Instant Pot Recipe Book, by Michele Fagone. It has 175 easy recipes, starting with breakfast, and a large collection of main dish recipes, and several desserts.

Some of the recipes require special accessories, so I’ll invest in a few of those. I didn’t get them at first, because I wasn’t sure if we’d use the Instant Pot very often. Now that it’s a well-loved kitchen appliance, it’s worth spending a bit more to get even more use from it.

Another cookbook that I bought is Instant Pot Obsession, by Janet Zimmerman. It starts with breakfast recipes too, then a good assortment of vegetable and side dishes, beans, main dishes and desserts. It also has a chapter with recipes for kitchen staples, like chicken stock, yogurt, and sauces.

Instant Pot Accessories

Some of the recipes are “pot in pot” style cooking. One food item is at the bottom of the Instant Pot, and another item is cooked on top of that, in a smaller container.

The first Instant Pot accessory that I’ll get is a collapsible steamer basket – one that is the right size for the pressure cooker. For example, this steamer basket is designed to fit the 5 or 6 quart Instant Pot, and comes with an extra Silicone Ring, and a lifter.

I’ll also get a tall trivet (2 or 3 inches high), to make it easy to cook in layers. This set has 3 stainless steel trivets that are 6 inch diameter – Low (1.2 inches high), Medium (2 inches high), and Tall (2.75 inches tall)

I don’t make cheesecake, but the Instant Pot is great for that, so get a small cheesecake pan, with a removable bottom, if you’d like to try making one of those desserts. This aluminum pan is 7 inches in diameter, and 3 inches tall.

The final Instant Pot accessory that I’ll get some mini silicone mitts, to make it easy to remove an inner pot or trivet. Regular oven mitts aren’t too helpful in removing items from the Instant Pot, so these mini mitts will save my fingers from getting burnt!

There are lots more Instant Pot accessories, so I’ll check those out later, when I’m ready to expand my cooking skills again!

Watch My Instant Pot Video

If you’re just getting started with the Instant Pot, watch my video that shows how to get the Instant Pot ready for its first use. Then, see how to do the Initial Test Run, from the User Guide. You’ll steam a bit of water, to clean the pot, and test some of the controls.
